Some thoughts on community...

Last weekend, I met - in person - a bunch of people that I’ve been connecting with online over the last few years. It was utterly wonderful. And reminded me of the importance of community in these times.
In a recent episode of ‘The Great Simplification’ called Navigating Dread [which firstly, is not as gloomy as it sounds!], Nate mentions finding community as one of the ‘pathways’ to navigating the metacrisis.
Incidentally, The Great Simplification’s Hylo space is turning into a good resource for events, including community calls offered by other people. Worth joining, if you haven’t already.
And finally - a couple of things I’ve come across recently that got me thinking [and feeling]:
“When I had offered to take her home, I had offered her, in her native tongue, the cage.” [Substack article]
“I’m saying these things because I believe that if I do not, then it would’ve been better I’d never been born.” [Podcast]
I’ve also been reading Abolition Revolution. I’m finding it quite confronting at times - mainly because it’s revealing layers of my privilege that I hadn’t given much thought to before. However, at it’s core, it’s helping me understand ‘abolition’. It’s not, as I had thought, simply about “defunding the police”. Abolition is, at its core, a call for communities to take back responsibility for some of the things that are usually ‘outsourced’ - i.e. security is left to the police. It has definitely got me thinking…
